rAcial hArmony dAy

Singaopre once faced serious post-war problems such as a series of racial riots that took place in 1964. Deep-rooted resentment and mutual distrust between the Malay and Chinese community had escalated into violence and had resulted in racial riots. People do not see themselves as one citizen of the nation and there were segregation among the different races. People were unhappy and viewed the other races as eyesores.

Haaha. Racial Harmony day is a day specially reserved on 21 July when we appreciate Singapore's racial cohesion. It is of utmost importance for the country to remain peaceful and harmonious, ensuring its citizens can live a blissful life, as people are the only valuable resources. The day also marks the success of Singapore in preserving the rich diversity of cultures and heritages. Most importantly, it serves as a reminder that racial cohesion should not be taken for granted and sustaining racial harmony should be consistent and in the long-run.

Back in primary school days, students would dress up in various ethnic costumes to celebrate Racial Harmony day. There would be alot of games stalls and food stalls selling interesting games and platable food. We would simply stroll around the school compound to visit the various stalls. There is this game called the Kuti-kuti which I used to play and malt candy whichI loved to eat during Racial Harmony day. Not too bad , I think...

"YouTube has no ethics, it's been created for the sole purpose of entertainment and money" Do you agree?

YouTube is created to provide an avenue for civillians to post their videos and it allows mass viewers around the world to download and view other's work. The creation of YouTube has spawned many computer or rather 'video' addicts as I knew many friends spending hours brousing and scanning through the videos, often laughing ang gloating over someone's embarassment or misfortune. I believe this can be quite bad, especially when we should not snigger at others when they landed up in unfavourable situations.Hence, I agreed to the statement.

YouTube has no ethics is partially because it practically allows any type of videos to be uploaded. Videos that contains pornography and extreme violence, which are uploaded by unscrupulous authors, aim to corrupt and desensitise the young minds. I believe this affects teenagers as they are not fully matured and they are easily influence by such medium of entertainment. This situation is further aggravated when Youtube has integrated into part of our genration's life and increasingly, when we trusted our peers more than what we believed in ourselves. An example that YouTube has no ethics is it allowed a 44-second film showing graffiti over the king's face to be aired. The contentious film also shows feet being placed over the king's face ,which is an offensive act to Thais, who consider feet dirty. I believe that publising such films will surely affect the sovereignity of the country and create an insurrection to the citizen's feelings.
